Cave Creek Real Estate Info
A small but fast-growing community in the Scottsdale-Phoenix area, Cave Creek, Arizona, lies within the boundaries of Maricopa County, on land that makes up a total area of 28.2 square miles. The city was estimated in July 2008 to be home to a population of nearly 5,500, enough to put it at a population increase of nearly 50% since the census in 2000. The population density in 2000 was low, at just 132 people per square mile. Cave Creek is about 35 miles north of Phoenix and about 25 miles north of Scottsdale, and it lies adjacent to the town of Carefree.
Cave Creek's residents were measured in 2008 to have a median household income of almost $75,000, and at that time, Cave Creek homes were measured to have a median value of more than $540,000. Cave Creek real estate values have, however, undoubtedly fallen since the U.S. housing market bubble burst and home prices around the country began to plunge. The median age of Cave Creek residents in 2000 was 44.7, a bit higher than the state averages in the low 30s. Education, construction and health care are the industries in which the largest number of residents are employed.
Cave Creek is home to four public schools: two elementary schools, one middle school and Cactus Shadows High School, and the city operates the Desert Foothills Library for residents to take advantage of. The nearest hospitals are in Phoenix and Scottsdale, which is home to one of the world-famous Mayo Clinics. In June 2009, the city attracted media attention by using a game of chance to break a tie in the vote for a town council seat, and the drawing of playing cards led a 25-year-old law student to emerge victorious over an incumbent council member.
Attractions in the city include the Cave Creek Museum, the Desert Foothills Theater at the Cactus Shadows Fine Arts Center, seven art galleries, the children's Gateway Desert Awareness Park, Rancho Manana Golf Club and more than 30 restaurants. Each year, the city annually celebrates the Cave Creek Film and Arts Festival and the Arizona Musicfest. Two Saturdays a month, a so-called "Thieves Market" is operated downtown, an outdoor flea market, and every Sunday from May through October, a flea market is operated. The Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area offers visitors 154 acres in which to enjoy the Sonoran Desert. Cave Creek Regional Park is one of the area's larger open areas, with almost 3,000 acres ranging in elevation from 2,000 to more than 3,000 feet.
